#OTD, WORKHOUSE, CEO Adam Nelson had the great pleasure of bringing the legendary The Sugarhill Gang and pioneers of rap poetry The Furious 5 to House of Independents for the two groups very first show on their triumphant co-headline Reunion Tour.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five is widely acknowledged as one of the most important and influential of the early hip-hop acts. The group was honored at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors in 2005 and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, making them the very first hip-hop group in the hall. Their vinyl records and the turntable used by DJ Grandmaster Flash are on display at The Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.

The Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" became the first rap record to hit the Billboard Hot 100, reaching #37. Released on September 16, 1979, "Rapper's Delight" is regarded as rap music's first commercially successful recording and the introduction of the genre to those outside of New York's 5 boroughs. The fifteen-minute record kicked off Sylvia Robinson's new Sugar Hill Records imprint which would eventually sign Bronx and Harlem crews Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5, The Funky 4 + 1, The Treacherous Three, and The Crash Crew.

Adam Nelson established Workhouse in 1999 as a leading boutique that develops stylish marketing and successful worldwide campaigns for a wide range of legendary clients including The Rolling Stones Ronnie Wood, Francis Ford Coppola, David LaChapelle, Interview Magazine, International Emmy Awards, Galleries Lafayette, Virgin, Porsche, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Henri Bendel, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tony Shafrazi Gallery, Chase contemporary Gallery & Versace. He was a founding partner & Executive Director of Asbury Park's House of Independents and served as the first Director of Communication for the Asbury Park Boardwalk. 

In 2019, Nelson received the Clutch Global Leadership Award in recognition of unorthodox industry command. Workhouse swept three of the industry's highest honors when it was bestowed with the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Silver Anvil Award, the PR News' Platinum PR "Wow Award" and the Bulldog Reporter Silver Medal Award.
